Why was the war of 1812 favored by the south and west and opposed by New England? The War of 1812 is one of the most complex wars of the United States. The war lasted for over two years, and while it ended as it had started, in stalemate, it was in fact a war that once and for all confirmed American Independence. For decade’s individuals, companies, and organizations have spent an unprecedented amount of money on researching, molding, modeling and working to define what a leader is and what characteristics make successful leaders. With all the research, there is not a quick answer or even full agreement as to what makes an individual an effective leader. The definition of a leader is â€Å"someone who can influence others and who has managerial authority.† (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2015. P.370) Research on management and leadership in organizations over the past century shows there are still no clear definitions or answers about what counts as effective and successful leadership; the field remains varied and argued. Actual studies of leadership began in the twentieth century. The early studies of leadership theories focused on the person and their behaviors, currently known as leadership trait theories and behavioral theories. Trait theories of Leadership Trait theories of leadership defined as â€Å"theories that isolate characteristics (traits) that differentiate leaders from nonleaders.† (Robbins, et al., 2015. Members of the Philippine marine science society gave positive feedback regarding the project, stating that the MOP can serve as a venue to conduct research, as well as impart information on aquatic resources and fields of specialization among students. Animals rights groups, particularly the  People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals  (PETA), however expressed their opposition to the project, saying that the ocean park only keeps animals in captivity and away from their homes, and it would only teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals in captivity—bored, restricted, lonely and far from their natural homes. Subsequently, when the fraud was uncovered, the fallout of WorldCom began which impacted not only its stockholders but also its competitors and the telecom industry as a whole. Limitations and significance of the data The accounting practices practiced by WorldCom used the US GAAP, which works on the basis of rules based accounting, conflicting with International Accounting Standards (IAS) and UK GAAP, which takes a "principles-based" approach. Although, accounting practices can be tweaked around to fit the needs of the organization, there are limitations that keeps it difficult to have gross misuse of data (Cooper, 2004). These limitations include bookkeeping controls, review of revision to entries before they are actually made, and approval of changes by internal and possibly external auditors that exceed cumulative thresholds (Belson, 2005). Data was of enormous significance in the case of WorldCom. The tweaks in accounting practices and the concealment of the real picture of the data enabled WorldCom to continue its practices for years and consequently show inflated profitability and shrunken expenses. Ethical implications WorldComs misuse of data was ethically wrong. The fraudulent practices were committed by some of its top executives using creative accounting to cover their losses. Ethical wrongdoings for personal gains by some of its executives lead to its demise and sent shockwaves in the whole telecom industry (Belson, 2005). Leaders set the moral tone of their organizations. And when leaders do not perform their moral duties, the organization surely suffers.
